Carmen’s take on things

📜 What I think

I am Carmen V. Calabrese, and I am running for United States Senate, representing the great state of Maine. Previously, I have been in regional sales of factory automation equipment for Bosch, I was a co-owner of three successful restaurants, and currently, I am an over-the-road driver for Wal-Mart. I have decided to take on this challenge because I see the current state of our country, and I am very concerned. From our financial situation to the perceived division of our citizens, to the age of many of the members of Congress, our country faces many challenges.

I have seen our country go through positive as well as negative times, but have come to realize that this time in our history may be the toughest. We are currently around $37 trillion in debt, with an interest payment of over $1 trillion per year. We must get this under control by decreasing our spending and increasing industrial growth. There is a group working on bringing down the spending, which has been out of check for many years, while increasing new industrial growth will bring a new revolution to the United States and create thousands of new high-paying jobs.

Whether D.C. and the swamp want to admit it or not, the status quo is over. This past re-election of President Trump has ushered in a change that many of us citizens believe in. One of the largest concerns is the deficit that the United States has built up, and it is unsustainable. President Trump has put D.O.G.E. in charge of looking for fraud, waste, and abuse in all agencies in the federal government. He has also surrounded himself with an extraordinarily strong cabinet to work beside him. Now he needs a stronger Congress to work along with him to implement the changes needed during his administration and, hopefully, more administrations with the same goals in the future. That is where I believe I can be a key part to continue to drain the swamp. It is going to be a multi-year process, and I look forward to the challenge and ultimate success of these implementations.

In 2026, we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country. As we celebrate this, it will also be an election year, and that makes me even more motivated for this challenge. When our country began, our founders were there to do their duty in Congress. After a short term, they went back home to tend to their farms, ranches, and small businesses. They did not consider politics as a career, such as Susan Collins has done. I believe two terms are in me, should I be re-elected; then my duty is to help get the next senator elected who believes in the promise that our United States portrays around the world—the shining city on the hill and the guiding light around the world.
